Black Bear Cub Caught Up in a Fishing Net
A black bear cub whose family was sniffing around a chicken coop got himself caught in a dipnet at a Hillside home in Anchorage, Ak. this week, prompting competing rescue attempts by mother and homeowner. The homeowner used his truck to pull the net back from the tree line, but the growling momma bear wouldn't let him close enough to cut the net. Eventually, the man uses his pickup to pin the net on the ground, allowing the mother bear to rip the cub free from the net and pull her cub into the woods.

GOP Candidate Greg Brown Caught On Tape Stealing Signs
A local Florida House District 1 candidate facing accusations around the world that he stole signs belonging to his opponent says he was “set up”. Republican Greg Brown said that he was simply doing what he thought he had permission to do when he removed signs belonging to opponent Doug Broxson from the intersection of Highway 89 and Highway 87. It was after dark Saturday when Brown stopped at the intersection after leaving an old-fashioned political stump rally in Jay. Brown said property owner Don Dewrell gave him permission to remove Broxson’s signs. Using a night-vision camera, Broxson’s brother videotaped Brown and his wife Jennifer removing signs. Brown has not denied that he and his wife removed Broxson’s signs, but he calls the entire situation a “masterminded set up”. “They knew what they were doing when the had the camera there,” Brown said Tuesday afternoon. “How far did they go to plot this out?

Armed robber loses mask.
What a plum! WAVING a sawn-off shotgun and a 20cm knife, two men threaten the lives of drinkers and staff at a Sydney pub - the third time in 17 days. Sick of being a victim, one patron fights back and, despite having his arm broken with a chair, his head split open by a wine bottle and being stabbed in the stomach, he unmasks a robber. And it was his bravery that could provide the key to solving the crime, as the robber's face was caught on CCTV. Yet, despite the obvious benefit, the images of Tuesday's robbery at the Stella Inn in Tempe were not publicly released by the NSW Police's multi-million-dollar media unit yesterday. Instead it was the Stella Inn's manager who gave the footage to The Daily Telegraph. "People should know there are bad guys out there running around with guns and see how frightening it is," said the manager, who did not wished to be named. "One bloke who saw the last robbery fought back and while I would tell people not to do it, his bravery and toughness means we can see the face of one of these guys. This is a real locals' pub and until the last three weeks we have always felt safe here. We are now increasing security patrols, cameras and time delayed safes. "We have to make the customers feel safe again. The best way of doing that is to have these guys caught." The Stella Inn was robbed on July 10, 21 and 27. "Police don't think they are done by the same guys - and I agree - but something is going on," the manager said. "We were robbed last Wednesday. Just 20 minutes earlier the same guys robbed the Bankstown Hotel and a shot was fired." The manager did not want to be critical of front-line officers, instead criticising the force's policy makers. "They [police officers] have a really tough job but there seems to be a policy of keeping things quiet when in fact it should be made public," he said. "If you look at the video it's obvious these guys know what they are doing."

Plane Crash in Pakistan Kills 152 People
Passenger plane slams into hill, all 152 people on board plane that went down in Islamabad are dead. The dead included two U.S. citizens, the spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad, Richard Snelsire, said without providing further details. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site while army helicopters hovered over the Margalla Hills to look for survivors. Television pictures showed wreckage from the plan and a thick blanket of clouds. Smoke caused by fire could be seen rising from the crash site. Residents of Islamabad saw the plane flying very low just before it crashed. The head of the National Disaster Management Authority, Nadeem Ahmad, said that the difficult terrain and weather were hampering the rescue efforts. "I have been on the site and saw things very closely. To me, the chances of survivors are extremely difficult," Nadeem said. "But we have not been able to evacuate any of the people so far because, one, we are stuck with the bad weather, second, the area has absolutely no access, it is all ridge line which as about 90-degree gradient and there is no access track and road." Authorities say it will be premature to discuss the causes of the crash without proper investigation. Airblue spokesman Raheel Ahmed said he suspects weather conditions might have caused the crash. Ahmed said the plane had no known technical problems and the pilots had not sent any emergency signals. "It was a (Airbus) 321 aircraft, not very old, about eight to 10 years old and in the aviation, this thing is not very old. Maintenance was done regularly, like I said, there was nothing wrong technically with the aircraft," Ahmed said. "Of course when the investigation will take place they will get to know what all happened, but right now I do not think we should get into speculations as such." He added this was the first crash for the private Airblue service, which began operations in 2004. It is the second largest airline service in the country after the state-run Pakistan International Airlines, PIA. In 2006, A passenger plane belonging to the PIA crashed near the central city of Multan, killing 45 people on board. Less..
